Recap from episode 26

In episode 26 of The Shop Management Show, I was thrilled to be joined by Julio Sanchez, Owner of Total Automotive Services.

Julio and I discussed:
  • Building and maintaining trust with customers
  • Differentiating your shop from competing businesses
  • Keeping up with industry trends and EV/ADAS technology
  • And much more
Let’s get into our recap!

Inspiration to start an auto repair business

As a kid, Julio discovered his passion for cars. Born and raised in Cuba, he witnessed his neighbors working on 1950s vehicles. That motivated him to get started on maintenance and repair work in his teenage years.
Over the years, Julio gained experience with vehicle finance, sales, and auctions. Eventually, he reached a point where he didn’t want to work for someone else anymore.
With his wife’s encouragement, Julio decided to take a leap of faith. He did just that after chatting with shop owners and some initial planning.
Julio’s lesson here for prospective shop owners: don’t get caught up in your hesitation about launching an auto repair business. Take that leap of faith if you want it!

Overcoming initial fears as a new shop owner

Launching a new business is intimidating! You may feel intimated and concerned about your ability to pull it off.
Julio faced similar fears as a new shop owner in Ruskin, FL. But he explains that as he got older, he didn’t want to regret not taking a chance and going for his dreams.
With that mentality, Julio got comfortable with the risk. Whatever happened, he could learn from the failure. Worst case, he could pivot and do something else.
It’s a sharp mindset for new shop owners to adopt as they overcome initial self-doubts and get their businesses going.
