Recap from episode 21

In episode 21 of The Shop Management Show, I was thrilled to be joined by Kyle Lindsey, founder and host of the hugely successful Saabkyle04 YouTube channel

Kyle and I discussed:

  • Stand-out stories from restoring and reviewing cars
  • Leveraging YouTube to build your brand
  • The role of YouTube in growing your shop
  • Kyle’s partnership with AutoLeap
  • And much more

Let’s reflect on some highlights!

Growing your auto repair business with YouTube

Can you accelerate your shop’s growth through video content?

Kyle and I discussed this topic extensively. And while he thinks videos can play an essential role in your marketing strategy, Facebook and Instagram may prove more effective in attracting new customers.

Consider the resources and budget it will take to create engaging video content. Weigh the pros and cons of that investment. Most importantly, ensure the decision to ramp up your shop’s YouTube channel won’t affect business productivity.

There are easier workarounds if you don’t want expensive video shoots and long-form content production. Kyle mentions YouTube Shorts as one appealing alternative your shop may want to consider.

Investing in YouTube video content

Kyle elaborates more on the investment aspect of going viral with your shop’s YouTube efforts.

The “how to” section on YouTube is already very competitive with shop-related content. Some popular creators have covered most of the trending automotive topics.

It’s a gamble no matter what for your shop. Video content will take time and require you to put yourself out there. But it can pay off if you have reasonable expectations.

Kyle recommends that you don’t look at YouTube as a potential revenue stream for the business. Instead, leverage it as a tool to build trust with your customers. Create video content that educates them on their vehicle’s maintenance and repair aspects. Use this content to enhance transparency with your customer base.
